What is this blog for?

Yes, I am lucky enough to realize one of my dream: doing a world-tour traveling Eastward, crossing about 20 countries during 7 months :-))
This blog tries to share part of this personal experience, through pictures, descriptions and thoughts. This is also to keep a track for me to remember later on ;)

Namib desert

Wednesday April 17th

Aller lààààà!!! :-) So happy to discover the Namib desert, with 1st a sunrise hike on Dune 45, then the Sosusvlei & Deadsvlei areas, really so beautiful and different from anything.

We arrived around 5:45am down the Dune 45, with the sky starting to light up the dunes of a still dark color… Walking the 100m ascent up the dune was fantastic, as light kept changing every minute, revealing a scenery which I had dreamt of. Being on the top for sunrise, discovering reddish colors brightening all the dunes around was magic.

The pictures are actually not paying a real tribute to how it is to be in this environment, I will have to go back… ;-)

After a well deserved breakfast with the team in this exceptional surrounding, we drive towards Sosusvlei, which is still about red dunes and desert, but has the a remaining dried / burned vegetation of an ancient river flowing here more than 500 years ago. Dunes progression stopped the river flow, and created a blowing scenery of white-dry river bed, black dried trees, and the dunes around. Very puzzling!!

Back to the truck for another 3-4h drive (300 km, short for once), direction Swakopmund, the Namibian capital of adreline sports J. Almost everything can be done there, and we are having 2 nights in the same place, youhouh!

Having a big dinner eating Oryx… as we had see many on the road crossing the country. Actually, very good and tender.
