Grabbing a train to Sandtown, where I meet my friend Aurélien to go to his place, have a nap, then head for lunch. The weather is quite nice, just about 22°C and sunny, largely enough to enjoy a terrace in a busy lunch spot :)
Drive to Jo-Burg center... on the left side |
In the afternoon I went to visit the major Jo-Burg attraction, the Apartheid museum. Very interesting... but also chocking to discover the details of this SA history. How could this happened after WW2, it is quite puzzling. History is complex of course, but still, never ever understood why skin color would drive any difference, so seeing how discrimination then Apartheid was enforced through the XXth century, even if I knew it, chocked me.
It is however quite amazing to see how the country, with Nelson Mandela & peers, could succeed to change then focus on building the future together instead of fighting and oppressing each other. I'll be curious to have discussions with Afrikaans and Blacks about that topic, but it sounds like a sensitive topic, let's see.
Unfortunately, it also makes me think of the Israel / Palestine case... :( A bit different, also with a super complex background, but still, South Africa could be a constructive example on how to move forward. But 1st, we, international countries, should position ourselves more strongly to not accept this situation, i'll have to see and check what is done here.

The new South Africa flag on a caravan... a great mix of colors to represent the mix of (great) people! |
In the evening, nice dinner with Aurel's friends, followed by drinks at Le Baron, then the Taboo club (mostly blacks), a great evening! :-)
